Master of Health Physics Students Come to IIT for Instrumentation Course

Two classes of 11-12 Master of Health Physics students from all over the country met on IIT's Main Campus for a week in July to complete Physics 770, Instrumentation for Radiation Health Physicists. The health physics program at IIT teaches students to be vigilant in their oversight, use, and disposal of radioactive sources and Physics 770 gives them hands-on experience in doing so. In the course, students use electronics ranging from simple rate meters and scalers to high speed multi-channel analyzers, as well as computer-linked instrumentation and computer-based applications. The practical experience that students gain in Physics 770 supplements the theoretical knowledge they acquire through the rest of their courses, and gives them an edge in the health physics job market after graduation.
